How to Take a Screenshot on iPad Pro

Using the Side Button and Volume Up Button

The easiest and most common way to take a screenshot on an iPad Pro is by using the physical buttons on the device. To take a screenshot, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the screen or app that you want to capture.
  2. Press and hold the Side button (located on the right side of the iPad Pro) and the Volume Up button (located on the right side of the iPad Pro) at the same time.
  3. Release both buttons after a moment, and the screenshot will be captured.

You will hear a camera shutter sound and see a thumbnail of the screenshot in the bottom left corner of the screen. You can tap the thumbnail to open the screenshot in the Photos app, or swipe it away to dismiss it.

Note that this method works on all iPad Pro models that have a physical Side button and Volume Up button, including the iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation) and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, and 5th generation).

Using Apple Pencil and Markup Tools

Another way to take a screenshot on iPad Pro is by using the Apple Pencil and the Markup tools. This method is useful when you want to annotate or draw on the screenshot before saving or sharing it.

To take a screenshot with Apple Pencil and Markup, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the screen or app that you want to capture.
  2. Pick up your Apple Pencil and tap it on the bottom right or left corner of the screen. This will open the Markup tools.
  3. Tap the plus sign (+) in the bottom right corner of the screen to open a new blank canvas.
  4. Use the Apple Pencil to annotate, draw, or highlight anything on the screen.
  5. Tap the Done button in the top left corner of the screen when you’re finished.
  6. Tap Save to Photos to save the annotated screenshot to your Photos app, or tap the Share button to share it directly with others.

Note that this method works on all iPad Pro models that support Apple Pencil, including the iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation) and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation).

Using Assistive Touch for Custom Screenshots

Assistive Touch is a built-in accessibility feature on iPad Pro that allows you to perform various actions and gestures with customizable virtual buttons. This feature also includes a Screenshot button that lets you take custom screenshots with different options.

To take a screenshot with Assistive Touch, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and turn on the AssistiveTouch toggle.
  2. Tap Customize Top Level Menu and add the Screenshot button to the menu.
  3. Navigate to the screen or app that you want to capture.
  4. Tap the AssistiveTouch button on the screen to open the menu, and then tap the Screenshot button.
  5. Choose one of the available options, such as Full Page, Window, or Selection, depending on your needs.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to capture the screenshot with the selected option.

The screenshot will be saved to your Photos app automatically. You can also use the Markup tools to annotate or edit the screenshot before sharing or saving it.

Note that this method works on all iPad Pro models that support Assistive Touch, including the iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation) and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation).

Saving and Sharing Your Screenshot

After taking a screenshot on iPad Pro, you can save it to your Photos app or share it with others using various methods. Here’s how:

  1. To save a screenshot, tap the thumbnail of the screenshot that appears in the bottom left corner of the screen after you take it. This will open the screenshot in the Photos app.
2. Tap the Share button (square with an upward arrow) in the top right corner of the screen to see the available sharing options.
  3. Choose one of the sharing methods, such as AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or any other compatible app, to send the screenshot to someone else.
  4. If you want to save the screenshot to a specific album or folder in the Photos app, tap Save to Photos and choose the desired location.

You can also use the Markup tools to annotate or edit the screenshot before sharing or saving it. To do so, tap the thumbnail of the screenshot and then tap the Edit button in the top right corner of the screen. This will open the Markup tools, where you can draw, highlight, add text, or crop the screenshot as needed.

Note that you can also delete a screenshot from the Photos app by tapping and holding it, and then tapping Delete.

Troubleshooting Screenshot Issues on iPad Pro

If you’re having trouble taking a screenshot on your iPad Pro, or if the screenshot is not working as expected, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue. Here are some common solutions:

  1. Make sure that your iPad Pro is running on the latest version of iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for any available updates and install them if necessary.
  2. Check if the Side button and Volume Up button are working properly. Press and hold each button separately to see if they respond.
  3. Disable any restrictions or parental controls that may prevent taking screenshots. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps and make sure that Screenshot is turned on.
  4. Restart your iPad Pro by pressing and holding the Side button and either Volume button until the slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your device, and then press and hold the Side button again until the Apple logo appears.
  5. Reset your iPad Pro by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will reset all your settings to their default values, but it won’t delete any of your data or media.

If none of these solutions work, contact Apple Support for further assistance.
